Your Alternative lunch destination

The rise of food delivery service has some of us not leaving the office premises at all during lunch time.

We have all been so overwhelmed with work that we find ourselves eating Tiger biscuits in our cubicle. Maybe, you woke up a tad bit late, leaving you no time to prepare your lunch box and the restaurant that all your colleagues frequent is starting to make your stomach cry at just the mere mention of it. The walk in the blistering sun, the fuel shortage, all the crazy road expansion dhulo and the traffic are all good reasons why you should consider ordering food from these places that are begging to be noticed. The prices offered by some of these places are unbelievably cheap. More investors should venture into this sector at a time when work load at the office is stressful and everyone wants reasonably priced food delivered to their doorstep.

“This is a growing trend here in Nepal, finally,” cites one satisfied customer while another one adds, “ Sometimes the delivery takes longer than what they had stated, and during transit from one point to another the food gets squashed to one side of the aluminum box they come in. But I am still satisfied with its hassle-free approach to a very busy person like me.” The concept differs slightly from one caterer to the next – Foodmandu simply deliveries food from restaurants (they have a list of about 75 different restaurants from which you can order your food) hence they don’t prepare anything themselves while Khaja Express prepares the food themselves and sends them to the places of delivery while restaurants like Meconopsis, Pizza Hut and Station BBQ gives you the choice of either having it delivered to your doorstep or eating at their restaurant itself. The trend seems to be growing as the NGO SABAH Nepal very recently initiated a similar move where home-based women cook for The Village Café, providing similar services.

Whether this business became popular because of all those Korean dramas and the constant delivery of those seemingly delicious Char Mee on bicycles, we will never know because all the owners when asked why, simply say, “For the convenience of everybody concerned,” besides a business strategy but it is definitely here to stay. Just don’t forget to tip the delivery guys from time to time… n
